Pacha
H and I have just had our one and only weekend in Buenos Aires and it was a good'un. On Friday night we met up with Jay and Chloe and went out to eat in a smart part of town called Palermo. We ate steak and drank nice wine. Argentinians eat out late, especially on the weekend, so we didn´t eat until nearly midnight. Afterwards there were plans to go out clubbing, but we decided to save ourselves for the Saturday night, and Pacha. So H and I came back to the hostel and ended up drinking with others until gone 4am anyway.
We didn´t do much during the day on Saturday except have a walk around town and sit in the sunshine. We met up with Jay and Chloe again in the evening, in San Telmo, which is where they are staying. They were going to take us to a steak house that they had been to four times but it was full, so I ended up finding the first steakhouse I had been to in Buenos Aires. And it didn´t disappoint.
The four of us came back to our hostel afterwards and booked ourselves on the Pacha trip. Pacha is the biggest club here, and is quite a way out of town, so the 40 pesos (8 quid) for entry (without having to queue), VIP access and transport seemed like a bargain, especially as the normal entry fee was 30 pesos. The nightclubs here don´t get going until the early hours and we left the hostel in two minibuses at 2am.
When we arrived I was surprised by how big this place was. I knew it was big but it was massive. And I have never been to a club that has its own car park! This picture doesn´t do it justice (at all).
So with our special, crappy wristbands we jumped the queue and went in. If it looked big from the outside, it looked even bigger inside. There was one huge dancefloor with a VIP area off of it at one end, and another area at the other end of the dancefloor, with a terrace running the length of the club outside. We tried to get into the VIP area, only to be told we weren´t allowed in. We were pointed in the direction of the other area, so off we went. As is the way with these things, backpacker VIP passes are obviously passes to nothing more than a room full of other backpackers (and by the the end of the night it became clear that it wasn´t a VIP area at all). Anyway, we soon found that there was more than one level to the club, and there was another big dancefloor upstairs, as well as a roof terrace.
It felt like the whole of Argentina had gone there. There were thousands of people there, and the main dancefloor was a bit of a nightmare it was so busy. It was very glam and a lot of people had gone to a lot of effort. I hadn´t. We found a cool bit on a mezzanine level overlooking the main dance floor though. We had a good night though, and it was good to see something as big as that (even though some of the mixing was terrible). At least I don´t have to go to Ibiza now!!
We called it a night at about 6am. By this time I was beginning to think about the Boca Juniors game I was going to go to in eight hours time.
