The World Cup Challenge

When H and I planned our migration to Australia I knew, that if all went well (ie. I wasn't working), I could be in the enviable position of being able to take the whole of the World Cup month off, and watch as many games as possible.

Well that time has finally come and as I type this SBS's coverage of the Opening Ceremony has just begun. I have rushed home from a night out in the City, leaving H in the company of our friends Vans and Satian. I had met them after work for a few beers. The plan was to have some food as well but that never happened so I scoffed a McDonalds McOz burger, large fries and a carfamle sundae on the way home (in reverse order). I actually fell asleep, not for the first time, on the ferry. Anyway, I got in fifteen minutes before coverage started, showered (to wake myself up) and made myself a strong coffee. The Opening Ceremony, Germany vs Costa Rica and Poland vs Ecuador awaits.

I haven't got a job yet, nor have I started looking for one, so I have set myself a challenge to watch all 64 live games of the World Cup. Now, that may sound easy for someone who hasn't got a job to go to, but do bear in mind that all of the games here run through the night, with most kick-offs at 11pm, 2am and 5am. When the final group games clash, one of the games will be shown at 7am. Mind you, I'm not sure how much appeal Iran vs Angola or Saudi Arabia vs Ukraine has.

Anyway, I'll keep a tab of my progess here.

C'mon ENGLAND.
